Dr. Muhammad Farooq’s journey is a remarkable story of dedication, academic excellence, and professional leadership in the field of renewable energy and quality assurance. Born on 12th August 1967 in Muzaffargarh, Punjab, Pakistan, he showed academic brilliance from an early age, consistently achieving first division throughout his education.

His passion for science led him to pursue his studies in physics. He completed his F.Sc. from Government College of Science, Multan, followed by a B.Sc. from Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, where he secured top position in the district and was awarded a gold medal. Continuing his academic journey, he earned his M.Sc. in Physics from the University of Agriculture Faisalabad with first division, focusing on renewable energy and solid-state physics.

Driven by a strong interest in advanced research, Dr. Farooq moved to the United Kingdom to pursue his Ph.D. at Oxford Brookes University. There, he specialized in renewable energy, composite materials, and optics, successfully completing his doctoral studies within three years—a remarkable achievement that earned him a distinction from the Islamic Development Bank, which had awarded him a prestigious scholarship. His research focused on solar thermal applications and advanced coating technologies.

Following his Ph.D., he expanded his research experience internationally by undertaking postdoctoral studies at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), South Korea. During this time, he worked on innovative applications of renewable energy, including water purification and thin-film technologies for optoelectronic devices. His excellence was recognized through a fellowship from the Korea Science and Engineering Foundation.

Dr. Farooq’s professional career began as a Research Officer at the National Institute of Silicon Technology in Islamabad, where he worked both before and after his Ph.D. His expertise in renewable energy and material science laid a strong foundation for his future roles. He later served as Assistant Director at the Pakistan Council of Renewable Energy Technologies, contributing to national efforts in sustainable energy development.

In 2003, he joined the Pakistan National Accreditation Council (PNAC) as Director (Laboratories), where he played a key role in strengthening laboratory accreditation systems in Pakistan. Over the years, he became a leading expert in ISO standards, particularly ISO/IEC 17025, conducting assessments and audits for more than 100 laboratories. His work extended internationally, providing consultancy and training to organizations in Saudi Arabia and other countries, including major industries such as ARAMCO and pharmaceutical laboratories.

In November 2008, Dr. Farooq took on a significant leadership role as Director Quality Enhancement at Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan. In this position, he has been instrumental in improving academic quality, institutional performance, and international collaboration. He has also served in several important administrative roles, including Registrar and Controller of Examinations, demonstrating his versatility and leadership capabilities.
